We all know the plight of the Whooping Crane... If not, it's a good time to find out more about these beautiful, but sadly endangered birds. In the 1940's, only 23 wild birds were estimated to exist, but in 1996, careful monitoring of the birds' migratory patterns indicated that the population had risen to over 150 birds. Many efforts have been credited for the painfully slow increase in numbers, but the species is still desperately threatened and needs our help to survive. Bob Elgas, internationally known naturalist and
wildlife artist, has captured this endearing Whooping Crane family in the painting that
you see depicted here. A mere 500 prints have been created from this lovely painting and
Mr. Elgas has arranged for proceeds from the sale of these prints to be dedicated toward
the continuing survival of these rare birds. These beautiful prints are available for sale
to the public ONLY through two sources: directly from the Whooping Crane Association and
through this website. Each print has been produced in magnificent full color on museum-quality, fine art stock and measure 23-inches wide and 18½-inches high, including margins. All prints are individually signed and numbered by the artist, and will include a personal note to anyone that requests one.
